Overview

Four key areas supplement and nutrition companies need to address in the current U.S. business climate.

Supply chain disruptions/ingredient shortages :

Supply chain disruptions and ingredient shortages remain key challenges in the supplements and nutrition industry, driven by global instability and rising demand. These issues can delay production and raise costs, making it essential for companies to diversify sourcing and strengthen supplier relationships to maintain quality and consistency.

Evolving regulatory landscape :

The supplements and nutrition industry faces increasing regulatory scrutiny, especially around labeling, claims and ingredient safety. Staying compliant is essential to avoid penalties and maintain consumer trust.

Technology :

Technology is reshaping the supplements and nutrition industry, from personalized nutrition powered by AI and wearables to advanced manufacturing and quality control systems. These innovations enhance product effectiveness, improve traceability and help brands meet evolving consumer expectations.

Product transparency & quality :

Consumers are demanding greater transparency and assurance of quality in supplements and nutrition products. Clear labeling, third-party testing and traceable sourcing are now key differentiators, helping brands build trust and stand out in a crowded market.

WHO
Leading natural health brand offering high-quality vitamins, supplements and herbal remedies to support overall wellness and vitality.

WHAT
The company was in the beginning stages of planning an R/3 to S/4 transformation. To get a head start, the FiCo teams wanted to understand what would be different between the two systems and how they might be able to improve their processes by leveraging new capabilities.

HOW
We conducted a series of workshops to highlight the new features of S/4HANA as they related to the company’s current use cases of R/3. We also introduced new features and technologies that would become available to them with S/4HANA and investigated the effort and potential payoff associated with investing in each one.

WHO
Premium supplement brand known for high-quality, sustainably sourced omega-3 fish oils and essential nutrients that support optimal health.

WHAT
The company had grown rapidly but retained startup-like structures, particularly in finance and production. With ambitious goals ahead, there was a pressing need to professionalize operations. Limited cost transparency, fragmented systems (e.g., SAP S/4HANA at HQ and SAGE at the plant) and manual processes are hindering planning, performance management, and integration. Our pre-study aimed to pinpoint these challenges and outline a clear path forward.

HOW
We conducted a targeted pre-study to assess finance and production systems against leading practices. Through cross-functional workshops, we identified key improvement areas in FP&A, product costing and SAP utilization. Based on our findings, we delivered a strategic roadmap to digitize core processes and unify operations on a single SAP S/4HANA platform, enabling greater scalability, operational efficiency and harmonized reporting.
